Tribal Seeds is a American-Mexican reggae group operating out of San Diego, CA for nearly 20 years. Formed in 2005 by brothers by two brothers, Steven Rene (lyricist, vocalist, and guitarist) and Tony-Ray Jacobo (keyboardist and producer), the group has seen personnel changes over the years. They released their debut album, Youth Rebellion, in 2005. Their eponymous second album wasn’t released until three years later but garnered an iTunes best of reggae nod and "Best World Music" prize at the San Diego Music Awards.
Throughout their career, Tribal Seeds has self-released their music on their label, Tribal Seeds Music, maintaining their independence and pushing the limits of the genre, incorporating roots and dub to create a signature sound. Releases came at various intervals, with lineups varying over the years. Their most recent record, Ancient Blood, was released in February 2024 and celebrates the Jacob brothers family ties to Mexico, including Cumbian rhythms over 17 tracks. Some of the special guests on the album are Hollie Cook, the Twinkle Brothers, and Hempress Sativa.
