San Diego-based band, Thee Sacred Souls have a unique sound that captured my attention. It brings me back to the sounds of '60s, and '70s soul music. The trio started with good friends, Alex Garcia on drums and bass guitarist, Sal Samano. The two come from Chula Vista, California, and were surrounded by Chicano music.
The duo decided to form a band featuring oldies music and recorded instrumentals. They needed a vocalist who could bring their music to life. They actually found their lead singer, Josh Lane on Instagram. They had him meet them for a jam session and quickly knew there was great musical chemistry. Now a band they chose the name Thee Sacred Souls and recorded their first single, Can I Call You Rose. This all came about not too long ago in 2019 and were playing gigs all through Los Angeles, San Diego, and other cities. The band believes in analog and released their first record on vinyl which is heaven for us vinyl collectors. They describe their music as Chicano Soul mixing the Chicano lowrider culture with soul music from the likes of Marvin Gaye, Al Green, and more. They just released their latest single, Easier Said Than Done and their debut album will be released on August 26th. The band is on tour so be sure to check them out when they come to your city. Support independent music and musicians. Happy listening!
