Alabama may not be the first place one would expect to find hard-driving, full-throttle rock music, yet it is the place that Shallow Side hails from. Eric Boatright (lead vocals), Seth Trimble (rhythm guitar, keyboards), Matt Daniels (lead guitar, bass) and Heath Fields (drums) are on a mission to “to spread the glory of modern rock & roll as far and as wide as they can,” and they’ve been doing it for a decade. From the first single, “Fear Ends Tonight, “ released in 2010, to its 2019 album Saints and Sinners, the group has not stopped rocking.
The band’s cover of Styx’s “Renegade’ garnered a lot of attention. Styx vocalist Tommy Shaw, who wrote the song, was one who took notice. “I’m impressed by these guys. good arrangement, good performance, good video,” he said of the cover.
Saints and Sinners was recorded in Orlando, FL at the Barbarosa Studio and produced by Michael “Elvis” Baskette (Incubus, Alter Bridge, Chevelle, Three Days Grace, Slash).
Upon its release in the summer of 2019. Sonic Perspectives lauded the album, writing, “Well-conceived and intelligently performed, there’s enough heft and craft in Saints & Sinners to satisfy even the most skeptical ears.”
