When I first heard this singer's remake of Metallica's Enter Sandman and accompanying video I had to find out who she was. Meet Rina Sawayama originally from Japan and now living in London,
England. When she first arrived in the U.K. she found it hard to understand what her teachers were saying but found through music she could communicate. While in high school she started a hip-hop band called Lazy Lion and it didn't take her long to release her debut single, Sleeping In Waking in 2013. Since then she has gained a big following with singers Lady Gaga and Elton John as big fans. She is not your conventional type of artist, she likes to do things her way and it has worked. She is not only a singer but also a model and actress. She has walked the runway for designers Balmain, Versace and more. When she realized that she cannot be nominated for any major British music award because she is not a U.K. citizen, she went public tweeting on Twitter and in the U.K. over the situation. Elton John was happy to support her and The British Phonographic Industry(BPI) changed their rules to include artists that have remained in the U.K. Rina Sawayama says she has been influenced by such artists as Christina Aguilera, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Evanescence, Limp Bizkit to name a few. Last year she was featured in the 4th installment of the movie John Wick which will be released next year. She will release her second album, Hold The Girl on September 16th and has released two singles from the album, This Hell and Phantom. We can't wait for a tour and to check her out live. Support independent music and musicians worldwide. Happy listening
