Taking its name from a Yoruban deity, the hip-soul duo OSHUN began with humble origins. Niambi Sala and Thandiwe left their native DC area homes to explore the music scene in NYC. The two met as freshman at New York University in 2013 and made their debut at a university talent show.
While Thandiwe originally sought to pursue journalism and African studies, her love of music won over. Joining with Niambi, the twosome created a mixtape entitled ASASE YAA and went on tour through the US and Brazil, all while still in college. Now out of school and with recognition from major press outlets like The Fader, Rolling Stone, NPR, Essence and Huffington Post, the duo recently released the full-length record, bittersweet, Vol. 1. Vibe proclaims, “Thanks To OSHUN, The Future And Black Girl Magic Are In Safe Hands.”
