Nápoles

If you listen to today's soul artists you may notice something different. It's not your mom and dad's soul music. Today's artists are mixing soul with other music genres like jazz, R&B, and more. Nápoles from Stockholm, Sweden is the latest singer-songwriter making her mark on the Neo soul music scene. This silky-smooth singer with Cuban and Russian heritage made her debut last year with the single, Slowzy and caught the world's attention.

She says when she took her first trip to Cuba to visit family that cemented her desire to create music and make it her career. When she was 15 she was part of gospel choirs in Stockholm and along the way dabbled with different music genres such as hip-hop, house music, and dancehall. Those music genres have helped influence her music. She started off as a DJ at 18 and it wasn't until 2018 that she decided she wanted to write and record her own stuff. She has been influenced by such artists as Erykah Badu and Maxwell and was just nominated for a Swedish Grammy. A feat that surprised her since in Sweden the Grammy's don't have a category for R&B or Soul. She has broken that barrier and now the world is her oyster. In 2020 she made her debut with the single, Slowzy mixing hip-hop along with her soulful flow. She also released the EP, Slowin It to rave reviews. Nápoles is already putting the finishing touches for her new EP that she wants to release sometime in October. Check out this talented singer-songwriter and support independent music worldwide. Happy listening!
