Nils Petter Molvaer

A trumpet can either sound sad, weeping, or make you think of faraway places. Jazz trumpeter, Nils Petter Molvaer is one such artist whose music makes you feel relaxed or thinking of those faraway places. Born in Langevag, More Og Romsdal, Norway....he is sometimes referred by his moniker, NPM. He is known as one of the pioneers of future Jazz, a genre that fuses Jazz with electronic music. Nils Petter Molvaer started playing music from a young age and by the time he was 19 he decided to study it full time at the conservatory at Trondheim. He was part of several bands like Jazzpunkensemblet and nu-jazz band, Masqualero. His muted trumpet playing has at times is reminiscent of Miles Davis's style of playing his trumpet during the 1970s and 1980s.

He released his first album in 1998 titled, Khmer, an album that incorporated ambient, house and electronic music. Since then he has released several albums and is always pushing the medium with different sounds to add to his trumpet playing. This month he releases an album with Mino Cinelu titled, Sulamadiana, this album will be released thru Modern Recordings which is a new imprint for BMG. As of this writing, Nils Petter Molvaer has just signed with BMG. Check out this outstanding trumpeter and support indie music and musicians. Happy listening!
