Kamaal Williams

I first heard of this talented keyboardist from jazz artist Yussef Dayes and I've checked out his music and it has a real soulful groove. Kamaal Williams born Henry Wu from Peckham, U.K. is a multi-instrumentalist, DJ, and producer. He has always been artistic in one way or another. As a kid, he took an interest in Chinese calligraphy and later through his parent's graphic designs became interested in street graffiti.

His love of music happened while in primary school and he learned how to play the drums and percussion. He performed with the school band and this started his learning of jazz, funk, and house music. His dad introduced him to the music of Miles Davis and John Coltrane but he was also interested in grime and garage music. His fusion of jazz, hip-hop, soul, funk and broken beats is a beautiful marriage in sound. The songs are smooth grooves that remind you of a sunny day hanging out on a hammock. Listen to his song New Heights and that drumbeat is something else, the groove of that song is intense. Last year he released the single, Mr. Wu which is jazz-inspired with house music beats. This talented keyboardist and drummer will have you either dancing or just vibing to soulful funky sounds. Check out this talented multi-instrumentalist, Dj, and producer. Support independent music and musicians worldwide. Happy listening!
