Jens Düppe

I've always said I'm a frustrated drummer and admit the drums are one of my favorite instruments. It's why jazz drummer Jens Düppe's new album is all about the drums. and caught my attention right away. Jens who is from Schwäbisch Gmuend in Germany started taking drum lessons at age 10.

He then went on to study at the University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar. He completed his studies and got his degree at the Conservatorium Voor Muziek in Amsterdam. He was able to receive residency grants and came here to New York City. Since then he has become a renowned jazz drummer in both modern jazz and is amazing at improvisation. He has worked with German radio big bands from Frankfurt and Hamburg and is both band leader and composer of his own quartet. He made his recording debut in 2004 with the album Melatonic which also featured Dimitar Bodurov on piano and jazz bassist Cord Heineking. The album was a smooth jazz, easy-listening record. In 2015 he released his solo album Anima and I love the song Peanut Butter & Jelly. Last year he released his album, The Beat and I just can't stop listening to it. I love the song Living Rhythm the drumming and sax playing is funky. Last month he released his latest titled Ego_D and its received rave reviews from many jazz magazines and writers. I can listen to the whole album and definitely have this on my playlist. Check out the song The Drum with both its rhythmic drumming and spoken word. He is now on tour and we hope he comes to the States and plays a few dates. Support independent music and musicians worldwide. Happy listening!
