Jas Kayser

Nothing makes my heart smile more than seeing female drummers doing their thing. I first came upon jazz drummer, Jas Kayser 2 years ago with the song Feel It from her EP, Unforced Rhythm of Grace. She blew me away with her timing and amazing chord changes. This London-based artist is one of several jazz women making their name in that genre. She follows in the footsteps of jazz artists from London like Nubya Garcia, Ashley Henry, and Kaidi Tatham.

She is a graduate of Berklee College of Music and has played with the best in jazz from Shabaka Hutchings, Nubya Garcia, Alfa Mist, and more. This year she will perform at the Jazz re:freshed's showcase at SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas. She has made great strides having been mentored by legendary female jazz drummer, Terri Lyn Carrington and Latin jazz drummer, Danilo Perez. At only 26 years old her drumming style is that of someone who has been drumming for decades. In 2018 rock singer-songwriter, Lenny Kravitz invited her to perform on his video for the song, Low. Last year she was awarded the Jazz FM Breakthrough Artist of the Year and this coming April she will release her debut album, Jas 5ive. In time it won't be strange to see women behind the drums. Check out this super-talented drummer/composer and support independent music and musicians worldwide. Happy listening!
