Manchester’s IAMDDB (Diana DeBrito) was influenced by her Angolan-born father, himself a musician, and has been carving out her own musical niche that she calls “urban jazz.” Releasing a series of mix-tapes over the the past few years, she’s been steadily gaining fans and critical praise for her hybrid hip-hop and R&B-inflected sound.
Pitchfork describes her latest mix-tape, Swervvvvv.5, as “ cheerful and reckless, dripping with unruffled charisma.” Fader has dubbed her “he badass new star of U.K. hip-hop.” Word has it she’s working on a full-length album, which is likely to earn her even more attention.
