This jazz guitarist has been making music for the past decade. Hedvig Mollestad Thomassen hails from Norway and her music borders between jazz and rock. She studied at the Norwegian Academy of music and in 2009 she won the prestigious Jazz Talent Award at the Molde International Jazz Festival. She says her influences growing up were Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin, John Scofield, and Pat Metheny. All those influences rolled into one and she creates some loud and awesome combinations.
Hedvig Mollestad plays her Gibson guitar with the power, control, and virtuosity of classic guitarists from the 70s. She grew up listening to jazz at home with her Dad who is a well-known jazz trumpeter on the Norwegian scene. Her mother a teacher also played some guitar, the instrument Hedvig gravitated to. She formed her trio in 2009 and has not stopped since. The band consists of Ellen Brekken on double bass and Ivar Loe Bjornstad on drums and Hedvig Mollestad on guitar and vocals. She has both played with her own band and has also collaborated on rock albums. Her fusion of jazz, psychedelia, and rock has fans around the world wanting to check her out. She has recorded over 6 albums and this past March released her 7th album, titled, Ding Dong, You're Dead with her jazz trio. Now that things are opening up again the band is set to tour soon.
