South London’s Hector Plimmer is a composer, producer, and DJ. One of Gilles Peterson’s discoveries, he was featured on Peterson’s 2014 Brownswood Bubblers Vol. 11. An association with Brownswood is a guaranteed way to increase an artist’s visibility, and Plimmer is no exception. Just a year later he was the recipient of the Steve Reid InNOVAtion Award.
After releasing several singles and EPs, he issued his full-length debut, Sunshine, in 2017, which Peterson named as Album of the Month on his BBC Radio6 show. His latest record, Next to Nothing, was released last month with guests (and playMymusicFM featured artists) Ego Ella May and Emma-Jean Thackray, among others, as well as Andrew Ashong who appears on our featured track, “Somebody Else.”
