German indie jazz band, Fazer has been making music together since they all met at the Academy for Music and Performing Arts in Munich. The band consists of trumpeter, Matthias Lindermayr, guitarist Paul Brändle, both Simon Pop and Sebastian Wolfgruber on drums, and Martin Brugger(aka Occupanther)who is their bassist and producer. Their blend of jazz mixes Western African polyrhythms, classical Indian music with techno dubs, and post-rock, that's a mouthful.
Many bands and artists today don't want definite music genres in describing their music instead they want to push the boundaries and make it their own. They are unique in the fact that there are two drummers instead of one. There is no pianist or keyboardist which is unusual in jazz but they make it work with more rhythm and beats. Fazer believes when it comes to jazz there are no
limits. As a matter of fact, the band describes themselves as a shoal of fish who move synchronously and there are many individual fish but together move as one. This is how the band sees themselves both melodically and rhythmically moving together as one. They made their debut in 2018 with the album, Mara and a year later with the album Nadi. Listen to the song, White Sedan with its rhythmic beats and beautiful trumpet solo. When they play live this band is amazing and all have beautiful timing and excellent musicianship. They are set to release their latest album, Plex on January 14th and hopefully will tour. Check out their single, Dezember with its cool laid back vibe, smooth trumpet sound that makes you sit back and groove but then that solo just soars to new heights, reminding me of jazz trumpeters, Miles Davis or Roy Hargrove. Their latest single release, Cuentro is just as fun with its more modern vibe. Support independent music and musicians worldwide. Happy listening!
