I love the origins of this band and how they chose their name. Dea Matrona from Belfast, Ireland whose Celtic name means divine mother goddess all met in school. The trio consists of sisters Mollie and Mamie McGinn and their good friend Orlaith Forsythe whose music is rock with some blues mixed in. The group first started off as a duo with Mollie McGinn and Orla Forsythe in 2017.
Mollie's sister Mamie McGinn joined later. In 2019 they released their first album, Away From The Tide which has Beatlesque harmonies, especially on the song, Siren Song. This trio I can tell was influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, and more. Their version of Led Zepplin's Whole Lotta Love is awesome and I'm very picky when it comes to remakes of classic songs. They have even caught the attention of former Eagles guitarist, Don Felder. They have been gaining fans at the speed of sound and with good reason. These ladies may be young at only 20 and 21 years old but they play like old souls. They say they practice a lot and the years of busking on the streets of Belfast have definitely helped them hone their sound. They just released their new single, So Damn Dangerous and their new album I'm sure will be announced soon. They will be on tour starting in January of 2023. Check out these talented ladies and support independent music and musicians. Happy listening!
