Curtis Nowosad

At one time I wanted to be a drummer, something about keeping the beat has always intrigued me. Jazz drummers are a special kind of drummer, it's not your typical 4/4 time, their beats are complex and not syncopated like Rock music or other genres. NYC based drummer and composer, Curtis Nowosad is making a name for himself in the Jazz world. Originally from Winnipeg, Canada, Curtis grew up listening to jazz music being played at home. He started playing drums at age 12 and by age 16 learned to play the piano. His parents are musicians themselves, his mother a piano teacher, and his father a saxophonist. Even though he grew up listening to Jazz he opted for rock music and such rock icons as Led Zepplin and Black Sabbath. It wasn't until he heard Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, especially the "Caravan" album, that he quickly wanted to learn Jazz. He loved Art Blakey's thunderous drum playing and that he was a great bandleader, this touched his spirit and it's why he wanted to be a jazz drummer. Curtis Nowosad loves jazz because of the sense of freedom that speaks to musicians who want to play it. Check out this talented drummer, composer, and bandleader. Support independent music and musicians. Happy listening!
