Blu DeTiger

New York City native, Blu DeTiger has been honing her craft for several years...and yes her real name is Blu DeTiger. Since the age of 7, she has been playing bass guitar and wanted to be a musician. Her older brother is a drummer and she felt she wanted to do things differently and she has. She later went to NYU and attended the Tisch School of the Arts and the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music.

She has been a DJ in the underground club music scene and from what I hear mixes the funkiest music you have to check out. She has played and toured with Indie alternative band, Kittens and released her first single in 2019 called, In My Head. She is one bad mama on the bass and in a male-

dominated bass guitar scene she is one of a few female bassists who hopes to change things. Her favorite female bass players she admires are Tina Weymouth formerly of the Talking Heads, Meshell Ndegeocello, Tal Wilkenfeld as well as singers, Nona Hendryx and Erykah Badu. In the music industry, she says there are no female top executives or producers that are in the same capacity as Clive Davis or Quincy Jones. She hopes that changes sometime soon. Blu DeTiger's music is a mix of pop music with dance and funky grooves.

During the pandemic, she became a TikTok sensation by uploading videos of her playing songs by Prince and others. Last year she released her debut EP, How Did We Get Here, and had Fender collaborate with her on a new line of bass guitars. Last November she was signed to Capitol Records and will release her debut album, Blondes. Check out this talented bass player/singer-songwriter and support independent music and musicians. Happy listening!
