She has been dubbed a triple threat by LOVE magazine and indeed she is. Alewya Demmisse is a London based Ethiopian/Egyptian singer-songwriter/ producer and model. She says she is also a visual artist and is new to the music business but has been creating a big buzz on the music scene. She has graced the magazines of British Vogue, French Vogue, LOVE magazine, and Vogue Italia. She has walked the runway for DKNY and was discovered by Cara Delevingne. She was born in Saudi Arabia and was raised in West London and had her ear to all the music going on around her in the community. The sounds coming from that community are Afrobeat and Afro-Caribbean, Arabic, Moroccan, Soul, and trap music.
Alewya's name in Arabic means "most high" or "the highest", so it's no coincidence that her music is about transcendence. She says "I want people to move to themself. I want them to feel the same way that I felt when I had a taste of a higher power and felt there was a presence over me." She was recently signed to London Records and released her single, Sweating.
