Asa

Afrobeat pop-jazz singer-songwriter, Bukola Elemide professionally known as Asa is making strides in the music world. Her music is both infectious and danceable. Born in Paris, France to parents that are cinematographers, she is of Nigerian heritage. When she was a child they returned to Nigeria and traveled within Africa. At 20 she returned to Paris to make her own way and there she started her singing career. Since her parents were always listening to music in order to choose soundtracks for their films, Asa got a taste of both American and Nigerian artists. She says she loves Marvin Gaye, Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, Aretha Franklyn, Nina Simone, and more. These were the artists that her father would play around the house or while putting his films together. When she returned to Paris to take classes at the IMFP school to study jazz music, the teachers there told her she was ready to be a recording artist and didn't need training. Now that's a rarity and not many artists have that kind of natural talent. In 2008 she released her first single, Eyé Adaba, and quickly received airplay later that year released her self-titled album. An album that charted around the world and won the French Constantin award for Best Fresh Talent. Since then she has released 4 albums and several singles. She is a top-selling artist that has sold over 400,000 albums worldwide. This past February she was chosen as artist of the month on Spotify. She just released her 5th studio album, V and it's already getting rave reviews. Listen to the track, IDG which features Wizkid. Check out this super-talented singer-songwriter and support independent music and musicians worldwide. Happy listening!
