Singer, songwriter, guitarist. Raul Midón plays all these parts. Hailing from New Mexico, Midón is a Grammy winning Latin jazz artist, with a long career as a leader and collaborator. He and his twin brother were born prematurely and spent time in an incubator that failed to protect the infant’s from excessive light exposure. The result was permanent blindness. Music became an essential part of his sightless world, and he immersed himself fully in a variety of genres.

His work infuses these early influences, melding jazz, soul, Latin music, and hip hop. He learned to play guitar at a young age, in a music program at school, and developed his vocal talents as well. He would lend these talents to artists like Shakira, Jose Feliciano, Julio Inglesias, and others.

Embarking on a solo career, he worked with DJ Little Louie Vega, with whom he toured in 2003-4. Overall, he’s released 13 albums as a leader, with guest appearances by Stevie Wonder, Marcus Miller, Dianne Reeves and many others. He’s worked as a side man with artists as varied as Snoop Dogg, Herbie Hancock, and Queen Latifah.

His most recent recording, Lost and Found, was released in 2024.
