Sharon Van Etten 2

January 7, 2025

It’s time to check in on Sharon Van Etten. The singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and actress was born in New Jersey and now resides in Los Angeles after 15 years in NYC. With six albums already under her belt, she’s readying a new release for February 7 with her band the Attachment Theory.

Van Etten plays several instruments, including guitar, piano, harmonium, and percussion instruments. Her new record is a collaboration with her backing band, a departure for her. “For the first time in my life I asked the band if we could just jam,” Van Etten explained. “Words that have never come out of my mouth—ever! But I loved all the sounds we were getting.” Her band consists of percussionist Jorge Balbi, bassist Devra Hoff, and multi-instrumentalist Teeny Lieberson.

Her first album, Because I Was in Love, was released back in 2009. The record captured her remarkable talents and impressed critics, praising her minimalist approach and intimate setting. She continues to evolve, and her latest single (from the upcoming Sharon Van Etten & the Attachment Theory) has a goth vibe and some electronics worked into the sound, not surprising since it was produced and engineered by Marta Salogni (known for her work with Bjork and Bon Iver).

The band will embark on a European tour in February and March with US dates sure to follow.
