Tomorrow’s Warriors alumni are currently dominating the independent jazz scene in the UK. Drummer Moses Boyd has worked with many fellow Brownswood Recordings artists, including those we have featured on playMYmusic.Fm such as Joe Armon-Jones and Shabaka Hutchings. He releases recording under his own name and with his group, Exodus.
Binker Golding has his eponymously-named group too, leading the way with his tenor sax. Together, Binker & Moses have fared well, having earned a MOBO award for “Best Jazz Act” for 2017. The duo’s debut, Journey To The Mountain Of Forever, was released as a two-disc vinyl set and also featured Tori Handsley on harp, Bryan Wallen on trumpet, Sarthy Korwar on trumpet and additional tenor and drum contributions by Evan Parker and Yussef Dayes respectively.
The Guardian reviewed a recent live set the duo performed at London’s Jazz Cafe, writing “...Boyd sounds like a heavy metal drummer taking a solo for the entire set, while Golding sprays out endless funk riffs, like Maceo Parker in the JBs. It’s a devastating combination.”
